I know I have written about this before but perhaps some missed the original post. So I advertised a position for a Sales Rep. Often I get calls saying “but I sent you my cv and you haven’t responded.”.
The first and foremost reason I probably ignored your cv is because it didn’t tell me anything about your capabilities e.g.
CANDIDATE 1 Work Experience Name of Company : ABC Position : Sales & Marketing (Internship) Duration : 1year Reason for leaving : End of contract
What exactly did you do as a Sales and Marketing Assistant? It was a 1 year contract – when? (2012, 2016?)
There are details I want included such as was it telesales or face to face sales. Did you work from a database or did you have to cold call? What were your targets? What areas did you work in? etc, etc, etc. Candidate 1 omitted the most important section – JOB DESCRIPTION.
CANDIDATE 2 CV of AN Other One Name of Company : ABC Position : Sales and Marketing Consultant Duration : November 2010 to June 2015 Job Description :
Building client relationship by developing proposals
Closing sales deals
Initiating sales processes by prospecting, scheduling appointments
Presentations to decision makers
Assist clients with training and development issues.
Expanding sales by monitoring competitors’ products.
Introducing additional solutions and services to new and existing clients
Networking and attending functions and business meetings
Preparing weekly and monthly reports
Selling of training packages
Co-ordinating public workshops and in-house training
Tendering and handling company projects
Acting as public relations officer for the company
Reason for Leaving Tragic accident resulted in me leaving the company
For obvious reasons I would consider Candidate 2 as the cv is more detailed and gives me a great idea of what he/she is capable of.
Check your cv before you submit for a possible position. Put yourself in the recruiter’s shoes. If you were looking to hire someone would your cv as it currently stands tell the recruiter what he/she needs to know
